Context

Design that helps people understand their rights

Paramount Disability Homes is a leading specialist disability accommodation provider in Australia, designing homes for everyday independent living. The work here was an ongoing contract, building and maintaining the visual communication system that the marketing team and management used daily. Basically, I owned digital and print collateral end-to-end.

Design challenge

How might we make complex NDIS and SDA policy approachable to participants and families who were often encountering it for the first time?

The work

Building for independence

The Figma modular system I built—visual layouts and digital templates for property brochures, information guides, social media, and marketing collateral—was adopted across the entire marketing team. The goal was that any team member could produce on-brand work without needing to start from scratch or ask for help.

Translating policy into people

Both NDIS eligibility documentation and SDA accommodation standards are dense by nature, so a big chunk of the job was to take that complexity and make it navigable, but not oversimplifying content to the point that they leave out essential information. It’s more to do with sequencing info in a way that eased readers into understanding and acting upon.

Reflection

Building for independence

Working in a disability services context sharpened something that has carried into every project since: the person reading this document might be navigating one of the most significant decisions of their life. Every layout decision was made with that reader in mind first.
